POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A 51-year-old Tampa woman was killed in a wrong-way crash in Polk County on Monday night.

Deputies say just before 9:30 p.m. Tammi Hillman, 51, was driving the wrong way on Highway 17/92 when she collided with another vehicle 100 feet east of Friendly Court in Lake Alfred.

The other driver, 19-year-old Keeli Gonzalez was driving in the eastbound inside lane when she collided with Hillman.

The sheriff's office says Hillman did not have her vehicle's headlights turned on.

The vehicles collided head-on then both spun 45 degrees before coming to a final rest in the inside left lane of the road.

Authorities say there was no evidence of braking prior to impact from either vehicle.

Hillman was pulled out of her vehicle by witnesses on scene, who performed CPR on her until first responders arrived. She was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Gonzalez was also treated by first responders and taken to Lakeland Regional Health. Deputies say she is currently listed in stable condition, but they did not release information on the extent of her injuries.

Deputies say Hillman was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Gonzalez was wearing hers.

Gonzalez was evaluated and did not exhibit any signs of impairment, investigators say. It's unknown at this time if Hillman was under the influence of anything.

Deputies say the cause of the crash, other than the wrong-way aspect, is under investigation.
