A Tarpon Springs carjacker was arrested after police say he kicked a man's spouse out of a vehicle while he was inside a store.

It happened Wednesday on the 600 block of Athens St.

At about 2:00 p.m., a 2011 Lexus was parked on Athens St. The driver went inside a business and left his vehicle running with his spouse inside the vehicle in the front passenger side of the car.

The suspect, identified as Lorenzo B. Butler Jr., 27, of Clearwater reportedly approached the vehicle and opened the unlocked driver's side door and got in the car.

Police say he confronted the driver's spouse and removed the victim from the vehicle by force. The spouse opened the passenger side door and began to yell for help.

The suspect used his foot to kick the victim's spouse out of the car, police say.

The victim had minor injuries as a result of being forced out of the vehicle.

Butler left the scene in the Lexus, and Pasco County Sheriff units eventually found him driving north on US 19, in the area of Country Club Dr., about 20-25 minutes after the incident was reported.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and Butler was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with battery on a person 65 years or older and carjacking.
