A Pinellas Park apartment building was evacuated by the SWAT Team overnight on Wednesday as they worked to apprehend a fugitive.
Earlier on Wednesday, detectives with the Pinellas Park Police Department received information that a fugitive from Miami-Dade County, Usmael Antonio Carvajal, 29, was possibly in the Pinellas Park area.
Carvajal was wanted on Outstanding Warrants for Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Armed Burglary, Impersonating and Officer, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Just before 10 p.m., detectives and the agency's SWAT Team responded to an apartment at the Carrolwood Apartments on 76th Avenue N. in search of the suspect.
During the search, investigators determined that Carvajal had likely entered into an attic crawl space above the apartment in an attempt to evade apprehension. They also determined that Carvajal may have used the attic crawl space to make his way into another apartment within the 11 unit building.
Due to the severity of Carvajal's charges, police and SWAT members evacuated the surrounding apartments. Residents were kept from the area for several hours as officers executed a methodical search for the subject.
At around 1:20 a.m., Carvajal was located hiding in an attic crawl space above the apartment he was staying in. He was taken into custody without incident. He will be booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
The apprehension of the fugitive was a collective effort between the Pinellas Park Police Department, SWAT Team, the Pinellas Park Fire Department, the Largo Police Department, and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Police say that Carvajal was one of the two men captured in this home surveillance video:
This crime was one of the many outstanding warrants he was wanted for.
