ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place on Christmas night.

It happened in the parking lot of Cabana Sands, located at 4300 6th St. S. just after midnight on Thursday. Detectives believe an altercation inside the club may have led to the shooting.

Investigators have identified and are working to find two people they believe may have been involved. They are still working to understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Eight people were treated for injuries, five of which suffered not life-threatening gunshot wounds. Most of the victims have been treated and released from the hospital.

"That’s terrible. At least no one was killed," said Karen Varner.

Varner works in a nearby business and says during the day things are quiet.

"But we do have a lot of customers come in and complain about the racing going on in the parking lot at night," said Varner.

Cabana Sands manager Ralph Williams was still shaken by the incident, but told ABC Action News that what happened is unfortunate. He said his biggest concern is for the safety of his employees and customers.
