SEMINOLE, Fla. -- A local community is helping adults with autism learn new skills.
A Pinellas County nonprofit is on a mission to train adults with autism skills that could help them land a new career.
Earth to Autism is hosting repair cafes. Here's how it works: people in the community bring in items they need to be repaired, like bikes, appliances, clothing and jewelry. Then, the nonprofit does the repairs for free (they only accept donations) guiding adults with autism through the process.
The next repair cafe is Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seminole United Methodist Church focusing on bike repairs.
While community members wait for repair work to be complete, they can enjoy a cup of coffee and relax.
The idea is to keep items out of the landfill and help adults with autism gain career skills.
Repair Cafes are gaining popularity worldwide, but Earth to Autism claims to host the only one in Florida.
