PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A man in Pinellas County is facing charges after stealing 24 donation checks from a Clearwater synagogue, according to an arrest report.
Shane Steele, 28, of Safety Harbor, took the checks from the Congregation OHR Chadash Synagogue between June and August of this year, the report says. They totaled more than $7,500.

The report says Steele was able to access the checks because he was friends with the officer manager. It says he would take one or two checks at a time, then sign and deposit them into his own bank account.
Video from a bank drive thru shows Steele deposing the checks into his account, according to the report.
Steele was arrested on Friday and is charged with scheming to defraud. He was released early Saturday morning on surety bond.
