Largo Police officers are investigating an incident that left one person dead at a medical center Tuesday.
According to officials, officers were dispatched to Largo Medical of Indian Rocks at 2025 Indian Rocks Road around 4 p.m. because a out-of-control patient was beating staff members.
"You got 4 guys saying that this one guy they can't control him and they're calling the police than something's wrong," said Lt. Joe Coyle.
Upon arriving on scene, police had to call backup because the patient, 27-year-old Mundrae Francis, started violently fighting the officers.
"This person was actively resisting. This person was punching...throwing punches at an officer. The one officer like I said he …he felt like he almost blacked out," said Coyle.
Francis was eventually restrained, but went into cardiac arrest. Hospital staff began working on him, but police say he was pronounced deceased shortly after.
In 2013, Francis was convicted of resisting an officer and possession of cocaine.
One officer was admitted to the hospital after the incident. Authorities continue to investigate.
