ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Pete Police say the 35-year-old man involved in a crash that killed an elderly woman on Tuesday was impaired at the time.

The St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a crash involving two vehicles near the intersection of 54th Avenue South and 28th Street South a little after 8:30 p.m.

Dorothy Wertz, 71, died of her injuries and the driver of the other vehicle, Blake Faine, 35, was transported to Bayfront Health with serious injuries, police said.

Authorities say Faine was driving westbound on 54th Avenue when he hit Wertz's Nissan sedan as she exited a store to make an eastbound turn onto 54th Avenue.

The front left of Faine's truck hit the left side of the sedan, police say.

Police said on Friday that Faine was arrested for DUI manslaughter after the fatal crash.
