ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 21-year-old man is facing a third-degree murder charge for the hit-and-run death of pedestrian on July 15, police say.
Tavirus Walters was arrested Friday in connection to the death of 26-year-old Phelexis Robinson of St. Petersburg.
Arrest records show Walters was going more than double the posted speed limit, which was 40 mph.
Walters went before a judge at the Pinellas County Judicial Center in Clearwater for a first appearance at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The St. Petersburg Police Department says Walters hit Robinson around 12:30 a.m. on MLK St. S at 34th Ave. S., then left the scene.
Walters abandoned the stolen white Infiniti sedan he was driving a few blocks from the accident scene, according to police.
Robinson was killed in the impact.
Walters faces charges for third-degree murder, leaving the scene of a crash involving death and carrying a concealed firearm.
