LARGO, Fla. — A 51-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after stabbing another man he didn't know on a Largo sidewalk early Saturday morning.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said while walking in front of the Public Storage shortly after 1:30 a.m., located at 16079 U.S. Highway 19 North in Largo, two men were approached from behind by 51-year-old William Lumar.
Lumar, according to detectives, yelled at the two unknown men that they needed to clear the sidewalk while also yelling that he wanted to kill someone. As the men cleared the sidewalk, one of them, a 65-year-old, tripped and fell. Detectives said Lumar began stabbing the 65-year-old before leaving the scene.
At about 2:56 a.m., detectives found Lumar with blood on his clothes and a knife that also had blood on it.
After Lumar was taken into custody and positively identified as the stabbing suspect, he denied being involved in the stabbing.
Lumar was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree. He was then transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The 65-year-old victim is in critical condition, and detectives are searching for next of kin.
