DUNEDIN, Fla. — Iliana Gorshe is a budding celebrity in her Pinellas County town for a very good reason.
“I’m the Cereal Girl!” laughs the 7-year-old.
As part of a school project last year, Iliana set out to collect 80 boxes of breakfast cereal to help local families in need.
She decorated a donation bin in the lobby of the Dunedin Public Library, where her mother, Phyllis Gorshe, is the director.

The Cereal Girl wound up collecting a whopping 605 boxes for the Dunedin Cares food pantry, with donations coming in from all over the country.
“It’s nice to help people,” Iliana says.
This year, Iliana is at it again, but with an even bigger goal.
“I want to get 730 boxes, because I’m 7 now," says Iliana.
Joe Mackin, president of Dunedin Cares, says Iliana may be just a kid, but her impact has been mighty.
“That cereal lasted us the whole year,” Mackin says. “But now we need more.”
Iliana is on the case.
Cereal donations can be made at the Dunedin Public Library or at Dunedin Cares.
