CLEARWATER, Fla.- — A Clearwater waitress received a generous tip after waiting on a couple at a cafe.

Amy Pham said the couple had breakfast at Wildflower Cafe in Clearwater. They ordered avocado toast and a veggie quiche. The meal cost $32.80.

The couple left a $2,021 tip.

"The man that did pay for it, he crossed out his name so I think they want to stay anonymous," said Amy Pham.

Pham said she was overwhelmed by the couple's generosity.

"I was so shocked, but also very thankful. I wish I could thank them in person or at least verbally thank them somehow. It's just so generous," said Pham.

Pham said she shared a portion of the tip with her co-workers. She also bought them pizza. She wants to take her family to dinner too. She said she will use the rest of the money to pay off her debt.

"It does make me feel good as if I'm doing something right and treating people well because at the end of the day that's actually what I want to do. I want to make sure people have a great experience," said Pham.

The tip challenge became popular on the Internet after celebrities started leaving large, generous tips.

In January of 2020, actor and singer Donnie Wahlberg left a $2,000 tip at an IHOP in Illinois. He has left other generous tips in other states too.

"I wasn't even aware of the tip challenge until it happened so I actually looked it up after it happened. I didn't realize Donnie Wahlberg had done it in Chicago and it kind of inspired this whole social media thing last December."

Pham wished she could thank the couple who left her the tip.

"Even sharing this story with you all, eventually, other people are going to hear about it or you know see it or something like that. I think it can be inspiring."
