“Storm drain murals will be a reminder that grass clippings don’t go down there,” says Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos. “Plastic bottles don’t go down there. Neither do cigarette butts, aluminum cans.”

Disposing of waste in storm drains can damage wetlands, cause an overgrowth of algae, increase choking hazards for wildlife and make waterways unsafe for boaters.

City officials are hoping by having residents paint storm drains, it will reinforce the rules.

The city will provide the mural supplies; the residents will supply the talent. To get started, click here.
