The 15-year-old boy and his three passengers inside the stolen vehicle were treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.
According to investigators, the sergeant was traveling eastbound on 18th Ave. South around 9:40 PM Monday when the stolen blue Toyota Camry, traveling at a high rate of speed, northbound on 7th St. S, ran
a stop sign. The two vehicles crashed at the intersection of 18th Ave. S and 7th St. S.
The sergeant was also transferred to the hospital but he is expected to be okay.
Charges are pending for the 15-year-old driver.
It's the latest crash in a series of incidents involving teens in stolen cars. The St. Petersburg Police Department and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office have been working to combat the problem for years.
