ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Kids in the greater Zephyrhills area have the unique opportunity to be Chief for a Day at the Zephyrhills Police Department.

Children in grades first through fifth are eligible to enter and fulfill their dreams of being a police officer.

To enter, students will need to submit a one to two page handwritten letter telling the department why they would make the perfect Chief for a Day. ZPD wants to know your story and what you might do if chosen as Chief for a Day.

*ZPD notes that if a child has a disability, a parent or teacher can assist with the letter.

In the letter, please include:

  • Child's name
  • Age
  • Current School
  • Best way to contact parent/guardian

Letters should be postmarked by Friday, March 22 and mailed to:

  • Zephyrhills Police Department
  • Attn: Chief for a Day Contest
  • 6118 8th St.
  • Zephyrhills, FL 33542

The Chief for a Day committee will meet to review the essays and choose a winner shortly after the contest deadline.

The department will select a day for the winner to serve as Chief for a Day based on the availability of the child and their parent/guardian.
