WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — It was still daylight at The Columns at Cypress Point apartment complex in Wesley Chapel.

Robert Rodriguez was playing music through his truck while friends and family hung out at the community pool.

Without any warning, Robert says a man later identified as Richard Savage pointed a rifle at him and yelled to shut the music off.

“My truck can get loud. But it wasn’t loud enough for that to happen,” Rodriguez said. “I turned around. I’m trying to look where’s he’s at and when I looked at him I froze.”

Robert’s sister says Savage, who lives in an apartment near the pool, cocked the rifle in full view of all the kids.

“As we were panicked and horrified, they were too,” said Yesika Rodriguez.

Robert shut off the music and Savage went inside.

Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies say they later found the gun in his apartment with one round still in the chamber.

“It’s crazy. Nowadays we can’t even live in peace or have family days or be out because we don’t know who’s inside a house,” said Yesika Rodriguez.

Savage is facing several felony charges for aggravated assault and child abuse.
