PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco County student was arrested after the sheriff's office said he was involved in a fight at school Wednesday afternoon.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said the 17-year-old student was arrested and charged with felony battery after a fight at River Ridge High School.

The other student involved in the fight was transported to the hospital and is alert and talking. That student did not have life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.

A misdemeanor battery charge for the other student has been referred to the State Attorney's Office due to the other student also participating in the fight, the sheriff's office said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff's office will have additional law enforcement presence at the high school Thursday.
