NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Clothing donation bins may soon be banned in New Port Richey.
City council is set to vote on the ban at its meeting Tuesday evening.
The move to ban the bins came after several people in town complained that instead of using the bins to donate clothes, many people have been using them to drop off trash. Residents say the bins have become an eyesore for the city.
Council originally planned to make stronger regulations on the bins, which would have made the property owners responsible for keeping the area around the bins clean.
Mayor Rob Marlowe said it's better to just eliminate the bins altogether.
If the ban does pass, there will still places in New Port Richey here residents can go to to donate clothes, according to the mayor.
