PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — By next year, Pasco County plans to be a destination area for youth sports teams across the country.
The Wiregrass Ranch Sports Complex plans to bring money to the county while saving Pasco families cash.
"This is going to raise the level of competition for our youth athletes in Pasco County," said Adam Thomas, Pasco County Tourism Director.
The $44 million public-private partnership will bring sports teams from around the country to Pasco County to compete in tournaments.
"It encompasses 100,000 feet of space so that will include eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, 16 wresting mats, and an area for cheer and gymnastics," said Thomas.
There will be much more including several outdoor multipurpose fields that the Wesley Chapel Soccer Club is excited about.
"It allows us to be able to play locally without having to extend too much money in traveling to other states," said Eddy Oyakhilome, the director of coaching for the Wesley Chapel Soccer Club.
The Wiregrass Ranch Sports Complex plans to bring more than 25,000 visitors to Pasco County in just it's first year.
"I think its great that we have this option of playing so close to home especially because we’ll be in our own area and won’t have to spend as much money," said youth soccer player Madeleine Hoffman.
The complex is expected to be finished by Fall of 2019.
