NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A man driving an SUV crashed on Seven Springs Boulevard in New Port Richey late Friday afternoon.
The Chevy Suburban was sideways pinned between the bridge’s guard rails and concrete barricades.
"There was actually a kayaker on the other side,” Brian Youmans said.

Youmans heard the crash while fishing on the other side of the bridge.
“To be honest with you, the way they went on that sidewalk and the guardrails and everything, they were kind of braced for impact,” Youmans said. “I’d hate to say a nice accident just for that reason.”
The Pasco County Fire Rescue said the driver remained on scene to talk to the Florida Highway Patrol. His passenger was taken to an area hospital.

Officials said they didn’t know her condition, but witnesses said both were talking and appeared to be OK.
“I would like to know what happened I don’t see any skid marks you know, so I am concerned,” Wendy Doughty said. Doughty lives just down the street from the bridge. She said sometimes she walks her dogs down the same sidewalk.
“Thank God nobody got hurt it’s a miracle,” Doughty said. “We could have died; it was very, very scary.”
We are still waiting to hear back from FHP about whether the driver could face any charges.
