A two car crash involving a stolen vehicle closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 early Monday morning.

At about 4:40 a.m. Tarpon Springs Fire and Police units were called to the scene of the accident.

Initial investigation showed a 2017 Toyota Camry was going southbound on U.S. 19 when the driver ran a red light and crashed into a 2013 Ford pickup truck traveling east on Tarpon Ave.

The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Toyota was discovered to be stolen, and witnesses say it was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Immediately after the crash, witnesses also say an unknown white vehicle arrived and picked up the occupant(s) of the Toyota and left the scene.  The extent of the Toyota occupant(s) injuries are unknown.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or the stolen vehicle can contact Officer Steve Gassen at (727) 938-2849.
