SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — On Saturday, Facebook launches a new free series called “Most Incredible Homes.” The social network hopes to compete with streaming services like Netflix with original bingeable content.
One of those homes featured is right here in the Tampa Bay area. Whimzeyland is the eccentric pride of Safety Harbor for more than 30 years.
“People drive by with these grins on their faces,” says Kiaralinda, one of the owners of the colorful, Instagram-ideal house. “We call it ‘smile-age.’ And then when the realize they can come on the property.”
To view “Most Incredible Homes," search for the show’s title or “Facebook Watch” on the Facebook.
The show will cause even more fans to the small but packed property.
Kiaralinda’s partner Todd Ramquist says they are “not very strict” when it comes to lookie-loos roaming the grounds who hope to capture the perfect selfie with thousands of bowling balls or the VW Bug covered in computer parts or the “Whimzoo” animals.
“People bring friends here who are having a bad day, and they always leave super happy,” says Kiaralinda of the property.
The couple has been together for four decades and have owned Whimzeyland for almost as long. It started out as a sad little domicile. Then they painted it wild colors.
Then they started collecting jell-o molds, Happy Meal toys, bottle caps. The controlled chaos as an artform.
Todd and Kiaralinda are also hoping the Facebook show will bring attention to their other eye-popping must-see a few blocks away: the Safety Harbor Art & Music Center.
The art center is hosting a “Most Incredible Homes” watch party on Saturday.
