Largo Medical Center cleared after hazmat situation

UPDATE | 4:25 p.m.--

Largo Medical Center has released the following statement:

We are grateful for the quick actions taken by Pinellas County and City of Largo emergency responders.  The situation involved a classroom that is not in a hospital patient care area. Patients were not impacted.  Hazmat teams have determined the classroom is now safe for classes to resume.

ORIGINAL STORY | Crews are currently responding to a hazmat situation at Largo Medical Center.

Action News has learned at least 30 emergency units have been dispatched to the center located at 2025 Indian Rocks Road.

There are reports of fumes coming from vents in a classroom area.

At least ten people have reported feeling some sort of eye irritation and are being evaluated.

Patients are being held in place, according to Largo Fire Rescue.

One patient was been transported to another hospital.

Action Air 1 is flying to the scene.
