Music hasn’t always been Kyah Robinson’s interest of choice.

"I was getting bullied,” said Robinson. “So I said, ‘I want to learn how to play the guitar, so I can show these kids I can sing and stuff. They will like me and not bullying me anymore.’"

The 17-year-old says she was never really fond of school, so she decided to finish early. Now, it’s about the music and the simple things in life.

“These are like my dad’s jeans that I am wearing and some white tube socks,” said Robinson.

She played her first gig at Nauti Nanci’s in Clearwater. Even though she was nervous, she got through it and it’s been full steam ahead ever since.

A little bit of Tracy Chapman in her tunes. A lot of soul in her heart.

"I don’t really try to focus on my voice at all. I just try to channel that energy out,” said Robinson.
