It's a pricey time of year--back to school season.

ABC Action News is always looking for ways to help you save money.  We've found a few events this weekend where you can pick up free school supplies and potentially save money.

A quick look at local big box retailers showed backpacks range in price for $4-15. A single spiral notebook runs about $2 and a packet of folders is about $10.

However, for hundreds of parents who went out to Citrus Park Town Center Saturday, they took all of those back to school supplies and many other items home for free.

"It's a blessing," said Shay Sanders, a single mom who drove to the event from her home in Bradenton.

There were also interactive kiosks, demonstrations, face painting, food and a Safety Zone.

Children were also able to meet area mascots including Raymond from the Tampa Bay Rays, Thunderbug from the Tampa Bay Lightning and Storm Dog from the Tampa Bay Storm.

Admission was free.

If you couldn't make it out to today's bash, there is another one being held Sunday at Countryside Mall from noon until 5 p.m.
