HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Just in time for Thanksgiving, 1,400 Tampa Bay area families are getting a special delivery at their front doors.

The Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger partnered with Metropolitan Ministries for a new program called “Holidays on Wheels.”

“It’s a new holiday tradition to help make sure all of our neighbors have a turkey this year,” said TBNEH executive director Caitlyn Peacock.

They started the program because of the growing number of families in need. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the need keeps growing.

“We were inundated with applications,” Peacock said. “We had no idea the need.”

She said they pulled it off because of the 150 volunteers who agreed to deliver the food, Metropolitan Ministries and donations.

“We’ve been blessed with so much community support,” Peacock said. “It’s sad to see the number of people in need, but I’m excited to see how engaged our community is.”

TBNEH is turning this into a yearly Thanksgiving giveaway program for people in need. They are also gearing up for their Christmas toy and food giveaway.

“We are not done,” Peacock said. “We plan to do this for as long as it’s needed every year.”
