VALRICO, Fla. — "I look up and I see a big, ole, smashed up area on the soffit where the camera was and a cord dangling from there," says Michael Marc, manager at the Formaggio's on Lithia Pinecrest Road in Valrico.
When Marc checked the surveillance video, he was rather shocked by what he saw.
"He looks like he's got a painter uniform on. And he's got a big stick in his hand," says Marc, watching the video again.
"Then you'll see he takes the big stick he brought with him and starts smashing into the soffit to get it off," says Marc.
Next door, at Homage Liquors, three more security cameras was smashed off as well.
The damage was done around 5:15 a.m. on March 10, a Saturday morning.
Both stores have printed out the same still image from the video and posted it on their front door for customers to see, hoping the thief can be identified.
The thief didn't break into either store, but did cause a few hundred dollars in damage.
"There's a little value in the camera if I suppose he didn't break it," says Marc hypothesizing on the motive. "He got 4 of them, 1 from us, 3 from the liquor store. Maybe he can sell them on Ebay or something but who knows. People do stupid things."
The stores filed a report with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
