LUTZ, Fla. -- A 35-year-old teacher is accused of engaging in sex acts with a student at Steinbrenner High School.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spoke with the victim on Friday. The female victim gave evidence that while she was a 17-year-old student at Steinbrenner High School, she was involved in a relationship with band teacher Jason Allgair, according to HCSO.

Allgair allegedly engaged in sex acts with the students both on and off-campus between October 2017 and May 2018. Allgair was charged with 30 counts of authority figure engaging in sexual conduct with a student.

"The care and protection of young students is a teacher's duty. Jason Allgair's alleged actions violated the trust of not only one student, but also the parents, school faculty and community that entrusted him with their children," said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister in a press release. "I commend the victim for finding the courage to speak out about what happened."

The Hillsborough County School District released the following statement:

"Jason Allgair was the band director for the past 4 years at Steinbrenner. He will not be returning to our school and has been placed on administrative leave pending termination."
