HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Tampa man was transported to the hospital after crashing into the back of a stopped semi on I-4 in Hillsborough County Friday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Lud Blitz Widg Payoute, 34 of Hollywood, was driving his 2013 semi eastbound on I-4, near CR-579 (exit 10), when he got a flat tire.
After stopping in the outside lane to repair the tire, Onek Prieto-Delgado, 35 of Tampa, crashed his 2011 Chrysler van into the back of the semi.
Prieto-Delgado was transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
FHP said both drivers are being charged. Payoute is charged with improper stopping and Prieto-Delgado with careless driving.
The accident caused major delays throughout the morning due to all eastbound lanes of I-4 being forced to close.
