TAMPA, Fla. — A couple escaped their burning home Thursday night after lightning lit up their Tampa neighborhood.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the fire at Village of Tampa Mobile Home Park.

Angel Pizzaro recalls hearing a loud crack close by, only seconds before his wife smelled smoke coming from a crawl space.

"A real loud explosion," described Angel Pizzaro Sr. "I opened the door and I noticed there was flames coming from the roof of the house."

Hillsborough fire officials are investigating if weather played a role in the cause of the blaze.

Pizarro and his family are just thankful no one was hurt and firefighters were able to retrieve his medications, CPAP machine, and pacemaker.

"The first thought that comes to mind is the safety of my parents," said Angel Pizarro Jr. "Materialistic stuff is secondary to anything else. We just want to make sure that our parents were safe."
