TAMPA, FLA - Police say a suspect shot a man who tried to stop an assault at a Tampa gas station over the weekend.

According to the Tampa Police Department, a bystander saw a suspect assaulting a woman in a truck, shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, at the 7-Eleven gas station on the corner for Dale Mabry and Spruce Street.

Officers said the man said something to the suspect to help the woman when the suspect got out of the truck and tried punching the victim but missed. The man defended himself by punching the suspect. ABC Action News learned the suspect then went back to the truck to get a gun and shot the victim in the shoulder.

Authorities said the suspect then took off in a newer red model Ford pick-up truck.

Officers need your help finding the truck, the suspect and the woman because they are concerned for her safety. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
