SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. — In an effort to get the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors as quickly as possible, the state is now setting up pods in retirement communities to give the shot.
"We call these things pods. We’ve done it in other areas of the state. Basically, we bring vaccines to areas where there’s a high concentration of elderly folks," said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
This week, 5000 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are going into the arms of seniors who are members of the Sun City Center association, a community of 9000 seniors over the age of 65.
Governor Ron DeSantis visited the Sun City Center site on Wednesday morning. He says so far Florida has vaccinated about 23 percent of its seniors.
