WIMAUMA, Fla. -- From fresh fields to your table, Pennrose Farms is helping local farmers sell their produce.
With many restaurants being out of business, Pennrose Farms tells ABC Action News many farmers are unable to sell their fresh fruit and vegetables quickly enough, if at all.
Instead, much of it is heading to the trash.
However, farmers are now getting together to move pounds of those veggies to your table.
“A lot of this product, if it’s not being purchased its going to go to waste. And we are putting people to work. I mean we have been able to keep all of our people on staff we haven’t had to lay anybody off and you know it’s really helped the community we really appreciate everything they’ve done and we want to give them value too.” Tony Piedimonte with Pennrose Farms said.
According to the Pennrose Farms Facebook page, a 20 pound box of veggies can go for $20. Customers will receive a box full of mixed veggies like cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes and lettuce.
To comply with CDC guidelines, Pennrose Farms has created drive-thru events to limit contact.
Pennrose Farms will continue to do the drive-thru events through the Coronavirus crisis.
