Rash of burglaries in the Lake Magdalene Shores neighborhood worries neighbors

TAMPA — Neighbors living in the Lake Magdalene neighborhood say they are on edge after a rash of break-ins.

They say several homes and cars have been targeted, and some have even reported stolen mail.

"We never know where the burglary is going to be next," Marilyn Lewis said. "It's been daytime and even at night when people are away from home."

According to neighbors, this all started about six weeks ago. The Hillsborough Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating. But for now, some neighbors are taking extra steps to make sure it doesn't happen to them.

"We're keeping all of our doors and windows locked," Lewis said. "We're double and triple checking them."

Lewis and her husband have lived in this neighborhood for 40 years. She says this is the first time she ever felt nervous. They purchased new outside motion detector lights. A few of her neighbors have done the same, and some have paid extra for security cameras.

"We have to make sure we protect ourselves," she said.

Some have a theory about who's behind the burglaries, but they're all still under investigation.
