TAMPA, Fla. -- As police officers in Tampa are now equipped with hundreds of body cameras in the name of transparency, the public can now request videos from those body cameras.
Earlier in the year, city leaders had signed off on buying 650 body cameras for Tampa Police Department (TPD) officers. On Friday, the TPD has unveiled new software that allows the public and media to request "Body Worn Camera video, along with Air Service video and Dash Cam video" online.

TPD says the public can now hop in on a laptop or smartphone, log into City of Tampa's website, click departments. Then under "Featured Links", click "Public Records" and then scroll to "Request Police Video Footage," TPD said in a press release.
