TAMPA — A West Tampa neighborhood is upset with plans to build a new house.
It’s not the new company they are concerned with, rather where the residential property could be built.
According to property taxes, Beatrice Darty and Clifford Laubstein of Quiet Living, LLC have purchased a parcel inside the Marti-Colon Cemetery.
The piece of land was bought at auction in 2017 for $2,260.
The City of Tampa says the couple has asked for approval to build a home on the land.
The piece of land that is being looked at does not have any grave markings.
Currently, the cemetery is surrounded by a busy residential neighborhood on one side, and a busy street along with a shopping plaza on the other.
Some neighbors also have family members that have been laid to rest in the cemetery, and they asked the new property owners to leave the dead to rest in peace.
