LITHIA, Fla. — Trav Mueller used to build power plants.
He's now building a clothing and lifestyle brand.
"Don't I look like a fashion designer?" laughs Mueller. "A real fashionista!"
The Lithia husband and father of two is one of the minds behind Humid Outside, an eco-friendly plant-based clothing line for women and men, athletes and otherwise.
This is apparel specifically designed to deal with the Florida heat.
"I grew up in North Dakota, just outside of Fargo," Mueller says. "And the day I moved to St. Pete, I'll never forget it. I was dying of the humidity. I was like, something's gotta give, man!"
In a way, he uses the same ingenuity and base engineering from his days working for GE to create Humid Outside.
The apparel is made from trees, including eucalyptus and beech, which creates a soft, natural, breathable fabric.
"We are delivering comfort," Mueller says. "A lot of the clothes that are available to us are polyester with that plastic-y feeling. So let's see if we can create a product that feels really good."
