Original Story
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Hillsborough County deputy has been arrested for domestic violence.
According to the sheriff's office, Amy E. Dawson, 29, was arrested on Tuesday after HCSO received a tip about Dawson.
Dawson is assigned to the Hillsborough County Dept. of Patrol Services as a uniformed patrol deputy.
Deputies say the domestic violence dates back to December. According to HCSO, Dawson and the victim got into a verbal argument that turned violent. At one point, Dawson allegedly grabbed her deputy firearm from her gun belt and pointed it at the victim. The defendant threatened to shoot the victim if the victim left her and then allegedly turned the firearm to her own head and threatened to kill herself.
Dawson was arrested at the HCSO Criminal Investigation Division and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
Deputies say that Dawson corroborated the victim's statements and made admissions of guilt implicating herself in the offense post-Miranda.
She is charged with Domestic Battery by Strangulation, Battery Domestic Violence and Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon.
Dawson has been relieved of duty without pay pending an internal review.
