HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested after Florida Highway Patrol says he attacked a trooper and was throwing golf clubs at other vehicles on Wednesday.
On Thursday at 1:13 p.m., FHP received a complaint that a driver that was driving on I-75 northbound near milepost 240 was throwing golf clubs out of the vehicle at other cars.
A trooper found and stopped the vehicle near Fowler Ave.
Once stopped, the driver left the van and confronted the trooper with a golf club. The driver initially complied with the trooper to disarm himself of the clubs but then resisted as the trooper attempted to take the driver into custody.
The driver struck the trooper with his fist, then the trooper deployed his taser and was able to take the driver into custody.
Jonathan Day, 41, was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, throwing a deadly missile from a vehicle, possession of marijuana, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
