HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that killed a man who was in the road after his vehicle became disabled.
FHP says Gary Gogolowski, 73, was hit around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after his truck became disabled on US 301 near Ranch Road. He was walking or standing in the southbound lane when he was hit by Kelsey Scheg, 24, according to FHP.
She left the scene, according to FHP.
Just half an hour later Scheg was Baker Acted at her parent's home by Zephyrhills Police after they were called about a disturbance. FHP says authorities only learned of the crash at that time when she confessed.
They went to the scene and found Gogolowski deceased.
FHP says Scheg was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Charges are pending.
Two unidentified female passengers were in the vehicle with Scheg at the time and FHP is asking them to contact them at 813-558-1800.
