At about 7:50 p.m., deputies say 18-year-old Grover Wills was driven to the Mobile gas station located at 612 W. Lumsden Rd. in Brandon by an associate.
When he arrived, he reportedly got out of the car and met with another man. A fight then broke out and Wills was shot. He ran back to the car and was taken to a hospital, but later died of his injuries.
Homicide detectives are in contact with the other party and his attorney, and are conducting interviews with other potential witnesses.
At this time it is not determined if charges will be filed. Detectives don't believe this was a random act and preliminary details indicate it was drug related.
Wills was on the football team and its Twitter account sent the following message:
With heavy Hearts, Last night, we lost not only a teammate but a brother. Rest In Peace Grover Wills! Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. #5 #Cougars..Forever pic.twitter.com/UaqHUcTNcJ
