HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — FDOT crews installed delineators on Big Bend Road after listening to concerns from drivers.

The issue was when drivers waited on the westbound turning lane to get onto 75 North, other drivers would try to get in the line at the last minute, according to FDOT. The delineators are a longterm temporary safety improvement.

“It was just frustrating. It was so frustrating,” Jennifer Smith said.

Crews installed the delineators at the end of April, hoping to make it safer.

“I think that’s a great idea. I really wish they had done that ahead of time because it probably would have saved me from a very frustrating commute that I did for over a year,” Smith said.

FDOT said adding the delineators was not part of the Big Bend Road Project. They said it was to make it safer for drivers until they complete major construction to alleviate the congestion in that area.

“There’s just so much that(’s) happening in that general area. I really hope they do something with it eventually,” Austin Figueroa said.

FDOT only added delineators on the westbound turning lane to get onto 75 North.

“I honestly think it’s going to be a lot easier for everyone to try and get onto the road and not have so many people cut us off and probably cause accidents as well,” Figueroa said.
