TAMPA, Fla. — Almost all of the northbound lanes of I-275 are closed in Tampa as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a deadly crash.
A fatal crash closed all northbound lanes early Wednesday morning, traffic was being forced off the interstate at 60. Shortly before 9:30 a.m. one lane reopened. At this time the other lanes remain closed.
According to a press release from FHP, a 31-year-old woman from Tampa was driving an SUV when the vehicle became disabled and stopped in the inside lane. A van and a sedan traveling behind the SUV both crashed into the SUV in successive order.
After the impact, FHP said all of the vehicles rotated to a final rest blocking the northbound lanes. The SUV caught fire and "burned severely," FHP said. The 31-year-old woman, who has not been identified, died at the scene.
The drivers in the van and sedan were not injured.
FHP said the investigation is ongoing.
