THONOTOSASSA, Fla. — Three children were transported to the hospital after a crash, involving a dump truck, closed U.S. 301 in Thonotosassa Wednesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. on U.S. 301 south of Stacy Rd in Hillsborough County.
Officials said Vladimir Carvajal, 43, was driving a 2015 dump truck when he didn't realize the traffic in front of him had stopped. As Carvajal tried baking he rear-ended a 2017 Kia Soul, driven by Lisa Davis, 53.
After crashing into the Kia, Carvajal's dump truck went into the southbound lane of U.S. 301 and crashed head-on with a 2008 Ford Explorer.
Aimee Lopez, 40, was driving the Ford Explorer and had three children in the SUV with her.
Lopez and two of the children, 13-year-old Jayden Lopez and 10-year-old Alexis Lopez, were transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The third child, 6-year-old Kieran Lopez, was transported to Tampa General with critical injuries. FHP said all three children are in stable condition, at this time.
Davis received minor injuries and Carvajal did not receive any, according to FHP.
FHP said everyone involved was wearing seatbelts.
