TAMPA, Fla. -- A bicyclist is dead after police say he was hit by a car and a pickup truck in Tampa Wednesday afternoon.

The Tampa Police Department responded to a call of 1700 block of North Dale Mabry Highway around 3 p.m. According to TPD, a man in his 50s was riding his bike on the sidewalk when he tried to cross the Dale Mabry Highway in the crosswalk against a red light.

As the bicyclist was in the southbound lanes, he was hit by a sedan, knocking the bicyclist into a nearby pickup truck. The driver of the sedan stayed on scene to provide first aid and is cooperating with investigators, TPD said.

The bicyclist, however, was later pronounced dead. TPD said the driver of the pickup truck also remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

TPD said in a press release that "although early in the investigation, at this time it does not appear criminal charges will be forthcoming."

Officials have not released the identity of the bicyclist killed in the crash.
