"The written threat referred to 'blowing up' the school and using an automatic weapon on students," according to the Tampa Police Department.
Tampa PD said, with the help of school security and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, they were able to identity the student who wrote the threat Thursday night.
Initially, the 15-year-old student, whose identity is not being released since he is a minor, denied posting the threat. He eventually told officers he did post the threat but that he didn't mean it.
The teen faces a charge of making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism.
The incident comes after students were warned that posting threats online is nothing to joke about and that it would result in serious consequences.
