SEBRING, Fla. — A Sebring woman is in the hospital after being hit by a train early Friday morning.

The 34-year-old woman was near Snyder Rd when she was hit. She was airlifted to a trauma center, but Highlands County deputies say they don't know the extent of her injuries at this time.

She called 911 at 5:25 a.m. saying she was hurt, according to deputies. At almost the same time the CSX train crew called saying the train struck someone.

Deputies and emergency personnel had to walk through groves to find a way to access the tracks. They used off-road vehicles to get to the woman, who was conscious when she was found.

The investigation will be handled by CSX, according to the sheriff's office.
