HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla — A woman was bitten on the face by a dog in Brooksville after trying to kiss it, deputies say.
It happened early Wednesday morning. Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Fire Rescue were called to Canal Drive in Brooksville about a dog bite.
Deputies say four adults share the residence. Two of the people had recently rescued a 200-pound Bull Mastiff from a man known only as Mike in Floral City.
Two of the residents got home late after a night at the bar, and the dog became aggressive and started growling at all four residents.
One said they had only had the dog for a week or so, and it had never shown aggression before.
For unknown reasons, one woman approached the dog and leaned down to kiss it on the face. The dog then bit her on the face, on the left cheek and lip area.
Another person was also bitten by the dog on the hand when he tried to intervene.
The residents were eventually able to corral the dog it to a bedroom.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and transferred transferred to a trauma center where her injuries could be addressed by a plastic surgeon.
The dog was taken to Hernando County Animal Services. They tell us with any animal bite, the standard procedure is a 10-day rabies quarantine for the animal. We won’t know what happens next for this animal until after this time period has passed.
