Spring Hill mom charged with murder, child neglect in hot car death of 9-month-old son

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A Spring Hill mother has been charged in the death of her 9-month-old son who was left in a hot car in August.

Cami Lee Moyer, 38, has been charged with murder in the third degree, child neglect causing great bodily harm and child neglect in the death of Keyton O’Callaghan. The charges come after a comprehensive review by the State Attorney's Office, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Keyton had been in his mother's care since Thursday night, August 16. Come Friday morning, the infant's father came home and found Keyton in the vehicle parked on the driveway in front of the home.

Deputies say the boy's father took the infant inside where he began performing CPR on the child while he was on the phone with 911. He continued to perform CPR until fire rescue arrived, around 11 a.m. on August 17, and took over.

Keyton was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:06 p.m.

Officials have not stated how long they believe Keyton was left in the car. 

The official temperature in nearby Brooksville was recorded at 86 with a feels-like temperature of 97 in the 11 a.m. hour on Friday. 

Moyer was arrested for violating probation on October 1. She was charged in her son's death on Tuesday and is being held in jail without bond.
