WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — A sweet pitbull in Hernando County is wagging his tail through recovery after he was dragged behind a truck on Friday.

Jan Harwood, the owner of Nature Coast Animal Wellness and Surgical Center was driving down Northcliff in Spring Hill and saw the dpg being dragged.

"I noticed out of the corner of my eye, a truck going in the opposite direction. It was dragging something, what I thought was a bag. But, when I turned to look I saw that it was a beautiful white pitbull that was tied to the bumper of the truck by its leash, and he was dragging it down the highway."

Harwood says she saw the dog come loose and fly into the road.

"It’s the most horrific thing I honestly have ever seen and I can’t get it out of my head," said Harwood.

Harwood and a Spectrum technician named Jayson stopped to help rescue the bloody dog. They took him to Nature Coast Animal Wellness and Surgical Center where he was treated.

They named the dog Ollie. He was left covered in scrapes and bruises, but Nature Coast says he didn't break any bones. He didn't have a microchip, the animal center also says.

"I’ve seen a couple of these incidents before and they weren’t as good of endings as this one is,” said Dr. William Stocker, a veterinarian with Nature Coast.

Ollie is being showered with love from staff at the hospital during his recovery. They say he is sore, but overall doing well.

"If you have any information pertaining to this horrendous crime, please contact HCSO @ 352-754-6830. Our email: Naturecoastaw@gmail.com," the animal center wrote on Facebook.

This GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for Ollie's vet bills. He will be available for adoption when he is healed, the animal center says.
